Members of the IPS and dear students,
We wanted to interest you in a unique and fascinating project that is getting underway, and we believe you will find it intriguing.
It involves the reconstruction of a Yarmukian house (6000 BCE) that was discovered in the archaeological excavations of Prof. Garfinkel at Sha'ar HaGolan.
The project is an initiative of the Yarmukian Culture Museum at Sha'ar HaGolan, in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Ein Dor Museum, and the Israeli Forum for Experimental Archaeology.
The model of the house and the characterization of building methods according to the excavation findings were done by the architect and conservator Roy Liran from the IAA. You are invited to join us in the construction and learn about Neolithic building methods and the challenges faced by the planner in such a project.
Additionally, the project launch events during the month of June include:
- Two Zoom lectures on Yarmukian culture and the beginnings of architecture.
- Concentrated days of building the Yarmukian house foundations (intended for ages 15+), in the yard of the Yarmukian Culture Museum at Sha'ar HaGolan.
- A family festival at the Yarmukian Culture Museum at Sha'ar HaGolan, including activities, creative workshops, and a guided tour of the Yarmukian Culture Museum.
- All activities will be conducted in Hebrew.
